From 3 rd February to 30 th June 2003

This exhibition showed the importance of the architectural sculpture adorning the great Romanesque and Gothic monuments in our area by explaining the great artistic trends of the medieval period: the collegiate of Sant Pere at the town of Àger, the “Seu Vella” or old cathedral and the church of Sant Joan el Vell (Saint John the Elder) in the city of Lleida. A large number of capitals and corbels were shown from these emblematic buildings that emphasised the artistic expressions of the Romanesque world from the 11 th to the 13 th century. Sculptures related to the monument that, due to the effect of time or the hand of man, had left their original setting and changed their function as supportive and decorative elements, becoming museum pieces after undergoing certain museum processes. |
